question about demographics?

about what percentage of the students are indian?
(just asking cause im indian and wanna now)

I think last time I saw this number it was like 50% were white and 50% was Asian, Indian, African American, Hispanic, Native American all combined. I imagine the Indian subcontinent is a good chunk of that 50%.

The demographic info is on the website:

[U-CAN:</a> Johns Hopkins University](ucan-network.org)

^It doesn’t reveal the information the OP is seeking.

True the chart does not specifically spell out INDIAN, however, one would be able to assume that Indian would be part of the 16% that is Race Unknown and International. For a more specific breakdown the poster would really need to call the school.

Race Unknown 9%
International 7%
White 47%
Hispanic 7%
Asian/Pacific Is 23%
Am Indian/Alaska <1%
Black 7%

Good luck, I hope you find your answer!

If the OP is referring to ethnic South Asians, then one would expect them to be found primarily in the “Asian” category, if they are U.S. citizens/residents. Non-U.S. applicants would be “International”, and those who refused to specify race would be “Unknown”.

JHS is right - they are included in the Asian percentage. Indian = South Asian. There is definitely a strong Indian presence on campus. There are 2 or 3 Indian dance teams, an Indian a capella group, a South Asian-interest fraternity and a VERY active South Asian Students Society (SASH). Diwali is a huge event every year with hundreds of students and families of all nationalities in attendance and lots of music, dancing and free Indian food. There are some Indian international students, but not a ton. Maybe 20 per class (with ~1230 students total per class).

The only information we can provide on the racial breakdown of our University is based on what a student self-reports. There is no category for “Indian” students so it is impossible for us to provide an exact percentage. Most Indian students do select Asian, but I have also seen students select “other” and some select “white.” The U-Can site linked above is the official data of the university as it pertains to race.

This Hopkins Forums discussion builds on what bluejays10 was discussing:

Thanks - this is helpful.
