Question about depressing quotes

One of my essays says that I can do it on my favorite quote. The quote I was going to use is pretty depressing and negative, though the way I would talk about it in my essay is neither. Would it still be okay to do?

Well, if you can talk about it in a non-depressing/negative way, then the quote can’t be absolutely depressing/negative, so I don’t see why that potential should stop you. What is the quote? Plus, it could show that you are able to make good come out of a bad situation, which is always a good quality to have!

“I believe that life is divided into the horrible and the miserable” - Woody Allen

You’d better not write about Woody Alllen’s quotation. My student showed me that this is a Princeton essay question. You need 100% positive in your own quotes and essay theme to get to Princeton.

So even though my essay is positive, since the quote is negative I should not use it?
