question about dorm

Hi, I am a international student and I will go to U of Minnesota. I prefer to live in a quiet environment, so I choose to live in a single room. However, I am worried that if living a single room will limit my communication with other students?? If I live in a single room, is there many opportunities for me to communicate with people living on the same floor??

Have you applied for housing yet? Just so you’re aware, it’s past the deadline for guaranteed housing for freshmen at the University of Minnesota and space for transfer students is very limited. If you haven’t applied, do so soon.

Living in a single room shouldn’t limit your communication too much as long as you try to be social and don’t hide in your room. One thing you can try is leaving your door open when you’re in your room studying or hanging out so others on your floor can stop by to talk to you. Something that’s important is branching out and talking to the people who live on your floor, especially during the first week when everyone is getting to know each other. If you make an effort to talk to those around you, having a single room shouldn’t matter.

Also, you can get involved in stuff outside of the dorms and join activities that interest you in order to get to know people.

Dear, you can socialize with them just fine, via common room or dinning room. Just don’t hide in it.
