Question About ED I Waitlist After ED II Enrollment Deposit

Help! I applied ED I to NYU and was waitlisted. I then later applied ED II to Boston University. Let’s say I get accepted to BU and submit my enrollment deposit. If NYU were to offer me admission from the waitlist, would that offer still be valid, or would my binding ED II commitment to BU prevent me from enrolling at NYU?

Yes. You should remove your name from the NYU waitlist if accepted.

Good luck w/ BU ED II.

If you got accepted by BU, you would be required to remove your name from the NYU WL, rendering your question moot.

You would take yourself off the NYU WL if admitted to BU. If you aren’t comfortable with that, change your BU application to RD asap.

Once you were denied your first choice major at NYU when ED decisions came out, you lost any obligation to enroll under ED. Once you applied ED2 to BU, you committed to enrolling there and withdrawing all your other applications- including your waitlist position at NYU - if admitted. If you still want choice/options, you should change your application to RD at BU.

The rules don’t change - if you’re not 100% sold on a school, you don’t ED.

If you prefer NYU over BU to the point that you’d take an NYU WL admission offer over BU and you’re willing to run with those low odds, then you never should have applied to BU ED.

Read your contract - you signed it, your parents signed it, your school signed it.

You are committing to BU if they accept you.

The NYU contract was null and void after they rejected you (but left open the possibility they’d bring you back, if they fall short of their enrollment goals).

Good luck.
