Hi, last year in my junior year I got a letter from my school asking me to send my transcript to UC for ELC. Anywyas, I sent it and got a letter back during the summer. I was rejected but they still gave me a User Name and PIN number. However, I lost my PIN number so started my own account(not the one ELC gave me already). Will this affect my application/admission in anyway? Or because I got rejected it won’t make a differnece. Or will it not make a difference at all even if you were accepted.

Hmm…I think the ELC account just prefills your basic information for you on the application…not sure if you need it to prove that you have ELC…but in your case, it doesn’t seem like it would matter…you can always contact them!

I was rejected, too (due to a mistake & grade change), but I still got in. A lot of people from my school got in despite not being ELC, so don’t worry too much about it. It’s no big deal. Good luck!

Does being ELC help admission chances into UCLA at all? What is the admit rate of ELC students to UCLA?

whats this elc thing

aoballer008: The ELC admit rate for UCLA in fall 2006 was about 57%, so it does seem to help… but then again, many of the top students who apply to UCLA are ELC, and some of these applicants are really outstanding and probably would be admitted even without the ELC status (hope that made sense…)

Mmm, those admission stats for ELC admits are not influenced by the fact that you ARE ELC. It’s because ELC students are already some of the best in California, since only the top 4% of students in each high school are selected to be ELC.

AFAIK, UC Irvine did ELC invitations (i.e., UCI gave those with ELC guaranteed admission) for fall 2006. I’ve heard of lower-tier UCs (UC Merced, UC Riverside) giving out ELC invitations as well, but I’ve never heard of the top-tier UCs giving ELC invites (so no guaranteed admission from UCLA, UCB, etc).

I doubt that ELC will help you THAT much at UCLA…ELC seems to be more of a safety net for guaranteed admission at a lower-tier UC…Because UCLA receives plenty of applications, not only from ELC students but also competitive OOS students, having ELC is like a nice little bonus…nothing much more
