I love writing but when it comes to college essays i fail, idk but the whole “how did this experience impact you” prompt completely destroys any creativity that i have for writing. How can u possibly respond without sounding just like the 20,000 other applicants?

So the question is, do all my essays have to have EC attached to it? I thought the essay was mainly for the college to get to know the person not the his or her ECs?

also would it be a bad idea to write about a mistake you made (not like drugs or anything but an error in judgement/responsibility) and how you learned from that mistake?

There are three main cliches in essays: Death, Drugs, and Divorce. After that, the only thing you can do wrong is have a trite style of writing that reads like everyone else instead of your true personality. Write about what you care about and use your own voice, and original writing should follow no matter what the topic.
