One of my colleges asked for a financial application in addition to the FAFSA, which my mom filled out for me and sent yesterday. One of the questions asked the current market value of our home, and she answered “unavailable” because there was no way for her to estimate or check this. Is that okay? Will this hurt my financial application? She enclosed all necessary documents that they asked for and answered all other questions.

You can try zillow.com to get an idea, but not sure how reliable that is.

These days, nearly all homeowners know about how much similar homes in their neighborhood are going for. You can get average sale price per sq foot from the paper for your zip.

I suspect the school won’t buy “unavailable.” Estimate conservatively.

It will hold up your app, better get a value.
