admissions.

Which one is right?

It is calculated cumulatively. Generally, schools use all of the grades put together as a GPA rather than averaging out each year. Some colleges only use the grades of years 10-12 to calculate a GPA, while some will use 9-12. They admissions committees will probably use all the way up to the last completed courses when calculating a GPA.

Your GPA from your Junior year is most important. That (and fall semester as a senior) will be the latest set of grades the schools will see. A relatively poor freshman year can be balanced by increasingly better scores throughout your school career.
