Question About Grade Evaluation for PEA

Hi everyone,

I have a quick question regarding my application to Phillips Exeter Academy. My overall average grade is an A, but I received a C in 10th grade. My SSAT score is in the 95th percentile. Does anyone know if a strong SSAT score can help offset a single lower grade in the application process?

One good thing doesn’t serve as an offset of another not so good thing. Everything is considered

I mean, does this make the overall view of my grades look good?

A strong standardized test score helps validate your overall grades, but they won’t ignore the C. How much the C impacts you is unknown. But the reality is PEA has one of the lowest acceptance rates in the US, and they routinely reject applicants with 99th percentile and straight A’s. And entry into 11th grade is especially difficult.

Give it a shot, but you should also expand your list of schools.
