So I got an email a few weeks back saying there was going to be a mandatory orientation for new graduates student this evening and that it was required to attend. I RSPVd saying I would be attending. But now I really don’t want to. I looked at the agenda and it just looks like a waste of time. They are talking about things I already know enough about. I don’t want to waste an hour of my time.

My question is, what are they going to do if I no show? Kick me out of school? I already have my classes scheduled and my tuition taken care of. What’s the worst that can happen. It’s not like this is undergraduate orientation.

You can’t bear to waste an hour of your time?!? Welcome to grad school. Prepare to waste whole days and weeks.

Yeah, I’ll waste my time when it matters, not when its me sitting there hearing things I already know about, like how to register for classes online and use your student email and how to get your student ID card and parking pass.

Bring a paper and sit in the back row reading.

“Hey, where’s Chris?”

“He didn’t show. I guess he felt he had better things to do than listen to us.”

“I guess so. He’s not much of a team player. Well, I’m certainly going to make sure he doesn’t work in my lab.”

“Same here. But cheer up… we can rake him over the coals during oral quals.”

“Word.”
