Question about health plan at Yale

I am a prospective Yale student from California and I use Medi-Cal for
my health insurance. (I’m not sure if “health insurance” is the correct term; the program pays for doctor, dentist, optometrist, etc. visits; I guess it’s a health plan). Medical is funded by the state of California and is provided to needy families. Would Medi-Cal work in Connecticut? Can I waive the health plan coverage at Yale if I have Medi-cal?

Um, I’m not sure, but I don’t think Medi-Cal will work in Connecticut.

Also, doesn’t coverage stop soon after you turn 18?

I’m on Medi-Cal but I think I will have to settle for Yale’s expensive health plan.

Sorry if I wasn’t much help. =/

Assuming Medi-Cal continues past age 18 (I don’t know if it does), it should work fine. Even without paying for Yale’s insurance, Yale will provide you with free primary care services. Buying Yale’s health insurance provides coverage for visits to specialists, and for prescription drugs. Assuming you don’t have a massive medical emergency (in which case Medi-Cal probably would cover it even if you are out of state), you could probably save any visits to specialists for when you are in California, and Medi-Cal should cover any prescription drugs.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I called their office earlier and said that Medi-cal would work in a medical emergency, and Medi-cal works I think until age 21 or until you finish your u-grad.
