Question about majors.

If you know for sure that you want to switch majors, when should you do that? Possibly at orientation? (admitted to Clark fall 2010 semester, wanting to switch from materials engineering -> electrical egineering)

The fact is you are staying within the engineering program and as a freshman you will have electives that will fit for both majors (think MINOR degrees). Your 1st semester is not the same as even Fall Soph. It will be traditional requisites to start off. Physics will be required for both, it is not like you are going from engineering into photo journalism.

I can tell you from history (my college yrs and our kids) that many kids enter the engineering realm thinking that this is their field to only realize when they get there that they absolutely hate it and change from that to business/architect/chemistry, etc.

Get there do your 1st semester and see if you truly want to switch. Reading about what that field does and actually studying for it can be 2 different things. I am sure you can choose the right electives for your freshman yr not to pigeon hole yourself into one major. Worse case scenario, you will be like me…Double major because it only took a few extra classes to make my Minor a Major.

Ahh! Thank you so much.
