question about masters!

so lets say i finished MIT with gpa 3.3, and someone finished Pace University (ye belove average university) with gpa 4.0. we both apply to IVIES, he will have higher chance of admission (only count GPA)? if its like that, it sounds stupid af…

People that run Masters Programs are not stupid. So, IMHO someone attending MIT, or other top school, will get attention, and probably an admission preference over an applicant from a mid to lower level school, even given the GPA disparity in your example. However, this is only MY opinion - I have no actual data or experience to back it up. But since Masters Program admissions do not rely just on grades, there is an opportunity for each candidate to discuss beyond the numbers.

What grad program?

What GRE score?

What research/work/publications/etc.?

What letters of reference?

Who on the grad admissions committee went to grad school with which of the referees/worked for the same employer?

Lots of factors indeed.

@happymom1 consider that all stats are similar(including grad progam and everythingg),their application is totally equal, EXCEPT gpa.

Again, everything depends. This is not simply a GPA from X vs. a GPA from Y. So stop worrying about it. Focus on the things that you can control in your own life.

Are you an MIT student or a Pace student? The GRE/GMAT would provide a common denominator.

Iif you have graduated from Podunk Univ with stellars GPA, great credentials GMAT/GRE, tons of research-REUs, internships, you will definitely have a chance to be accepted at IVIES. Why worry about the Ivy Adcom? why worry also about other applicants? worry yourself whether you will be accepted or not. Acceptance to grad school is individual in nature. Especially if you want to go to any Medical Schools, you better have that high GPA and if you have lousy GPA 3.2 below from MIT or Harvard, it is an indication that you will not be able to handle the difficulty of top med. schools. May the Force be with you.

@mishowisyle123 a 3.3 on MIT’s 5-point scale is similar to a 2.3 GPA elsewhere, and will most likely lead to rejection.

A 4.3/5.0 GPA is fine, but as others have stated, it is very hard to predict which one will be the better candidate without other info.
