I’m currently attending University of Houston as a freshman and so far I have taken the following classes and this is what I made in each of them:

Core 1101 (A required class freshman we have to take): A
English 1303 First Year Writing 1: B+
US and Texas Const/Politics: C+
Introduction to Sociology:A
History; The US to 1877: B

I took Intro to Sociology and The US to 1877 at my community college before my first year as a freshman. I am planning on declaring a major in Computer Engineering. Now my question is will the C+ I received in US and Texas Const/Politics effect my chances in declaring this major? I am taking another English class along with a Math and Chemistry class next semester and they will be looking at those especially. I was just wondering if the C+ in politics will look bad or not for me when I try to declare this major?

Most colleges allow you to declare any major you want, as far as I know. If you happened to get a bad grade, such as a D or an F, you might have had to re-take it, but since it is not in your intended major, it probably isn’t much of a big deal.

I think the minimum across the board for passing classes in one’s major is 2.0, or a straight C. As long as you do better in subsequent classes, you’ll be fine.

I was really worried about one of my classes this semester… I knew that I had an A in at least 13 hours (five classes)… but I wasn’t sure about the sixth class. I calculated my GPA based on the worst case scenario (Five A’s and an F) and I still had a 3.25 for the semester which was enough to put me on the Dean’s List.

So as long as you improve… you should be fine. :)
