Question About North Face Backpacks.

I’ll be starting college as a freshman this upcoming fall and am interested in buying a North Face backpack since it will last me all through college. My problem is that the backpacks I like (the cheaper ones, as well) say they only fit “most laptops up to 15’”. I’ve done research and asked around and some people say that a 15.6" (which is my laptop size) will fit and some say to go ahead and get the larger backpack for the 17". The North Face representative I emailed said that they can not guarantee laptops larger than 15" will fit.

But is 15.6" really that much of a difference?

If anyone has ever fit a 15.6" into a 15" North Face laptop backpack, please let me know how that worked out for you.

Also, I don’t have a store near me that sells North Face backpacks so I can’t go in person to try it out.

I’ve tried to fit a 15.6 inch comp into a bag meant for a 15inch. It was a very hard and tight fit.

But it still fit, right? Isn’t that what matters?

It was a pain in the butt to get in and out is my point.

Don’t forget, once you put anything else in the bag, it will be that much tighter to fit the laptop in if it was going to be close to begin with…I bought an LLBean backpack for D, because they will replace anything for free at any time, no questions. So, if the strap comes unstitched, a pocket wears, or a zipper lets go, a free replacement is coming, no extra money to have to spend during college…something to consider when money is tight.

I have a northface jester and it fits my 15.6 and enough room for two binders

The easiest way is to find a store that carries them and then stick your laptop in one to see how it fits, the next easiest would be looking up your laptop’s model number on the internet and seeing if people have had any luck fitting it in that bag (laptop model + bag model). Otherwise? Hope for the best, I suppose. Funny, I bought a large north face bag specifically because I had a 16" laptop, and it ended up being that I hardly ever carried my laptop in the bag (though it was great when I did!), and the bag itself is kinda annoying sometimes.

FWIW I have a north face big shot, the foam on the back is too high to ‘sit’ under a chair and it often falls on its front too easily because it’s tall and narrow.

Thankfully it wasn’t expensive (check slickdeals :))
