Question about nursing school

So I want to do either premed or predent, but I was wondering if I could apply to the nursing school as a Healthcare Management or human science major. My fear is that they will think I’m taking the easy way out (admissions-wise), when in reality, the reason I am trying to get a business-related field is because I truely want to have good business sense, and not just be a doctor that can recite the kreb’s cycle off the top of my head. So is this okay, or will they reject me because they’ll think I’m trying to be sneaky?

thanks

The training for nurses and doctors is totally different. To this day doctors look down on nurses. Many nursing programs require only 2or 3 years. Why not be an undergrad business major and take the pre-med requirements.

because I specifically want to major in the ones I mentioned before rather than majoring in something non-scientific and purely business related. So will that be frowned upon?

yes you can apply as a health care management policy major they don’t take human bio and other science courses that the other nhs majors have to take

what about the human sciences people. Do they have to take the other sciences? but is that really a bad thing because won’t I have to take them as a premed anyway?

Also, I was wondering what kind of careers would be available as either major (healthcare management and or human science) in case I don’t get into med school, as well as where can I find a better description of what they study besides the nursing school homepage.

That is the best place to find all information on the majors. You will not have to take any science courses if you are in Healthcare management and policy. The only pseudo science course you’ll take is Language of Health and Disease, which is a very basic anatomy and physiology course.

Human Science is a…science major. You will have to take human biology I and II, chemistry, physics, pharmacology, pathophysiology, immunology, biotechnology, etc. It is a very rigorous major, and if you don’t like science, definitely don’t major in Human Science. As a pre-med student, you’ll have to take Biology, Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, and Statistics. Bio, General Chemistry, Physics and Calculus are all included in the Human Science curriculum.

Remember that you can major in anything you want and be pre-med. They will not look “down” on you for majoring in a business related field, or any non-science field. I know someone that is a Linguistics major as well as pre-med and got into med schools like UChicago, Georgetown, Northwestern, and others. Again, admissions offices do not care what you major in, as long as you take the pre-med courses required.

For what the individual majors study:

im a freshman healthcare management & policy major and pre-med. i def think its a great idea and not frowned upon in any way. the stuff i learn in the major will probably come in really handy once i’m a doctor.
