Question about one of my ECs

Hi! So I have a year before I go to I apply to boarding school. I just have one question. I did a silver award project that was making a cookbook for a food pantry with items that are always there. They were low budget breakfast, lunch, dinner, and dessert recipes with recipe cards and a printed out cookbook at the pantry. I also translated the book into spanish bc there is a big population of spanish speakers in that area, and I take it at school. This year I’m also starting an instagram page that is baking videos of recipes that I bake. I bake crossaints, macarons, cinnamon rolls, brown butter chocolate chip cookies, and types of cakes. Right now my dad and I have been filming the videos of me baking and sending it to our family, ut we will begin posting the soon. Would my interest in baking be something that stands out on my application, or because it’s not an academic ec they don’t care? Thank you for reading this!

Include it! It shows what you’re interested in and what you do with it. Many dorms have kitchens, btw, and it’ll be a fun way to engage with classmates – as just one outlet.

There was a kid at DS’ school who has advanced quite far on one of the televised cooking competitions, and my guess is that it made her application memorable.

Ok! And also this is like my main ec other than ecnl soccer, so would it be enough to get into a school like mps? I have many other ecs that i really enjoy but these two are the main ones.

When schools look at ECs, they know that not everyone has access to the same things. Without a parent to drive you, for example, ECNL soccer would be almost impossible. Some students’ current schools have lots of clubs, activities, and sports. Others do not. So in a nutshell, there is no “right” answer.

They ARE looking at how you use your time outside school to gauge your willingness to engage with your interests and others, to see what it says about your interests, and to get a sense of how you might get involved with your BS community.

Your activities are great for all of that.

Definitely include the Silver Award Project.
