Question About PSU Math Classes

Hey everyone! I’m not sure if anyone will be able to answer this, but any input is greatly appreciated. I have already taken my math placement test for PSU. I placed in Math 22 and Math 26. Since I am an engineering major, I need both in order to take Math 140, which is required for my major. I already called admissions and they were unable to answer my question. I am starting in the summer and I am allowed to take two classes. Are you able to take both of these classes in the same semester because I noticed that they are both available in the summer? If not, I will take my placement test again and try to place higher. If you are unable to answer, could you direct me to somewhere I could have this answered?

Try studying up for the placement test regardless.

I found a spring 2017 syllabus for Math 22 and it mentioned a special case of buying the required online access code “if you are registered for both Math 22 and Math 26,” so it sounds like you can take both at the same time.

@bodangles I took the first one completely out of the blue and didn’t review so I got a lot of things I knew wrong. I am definitely not going to place in Calculus and Math 22 and 26 are offered in the summer, so if I am able to take both this summer, I would be able to take Math 140 in the fall.

The admissions people told me to try calling engineering advising, but nobody was available.

So see how well you do with review. The next level up (http://advising.psu.edu/aleks/understandyourscore.html) might make you take only one class instead of two. Then you could knock out another requirement over the summer too.

@bodangles I’m pretty sure the next level up isn’t available during the summer or maybe I just didn’t see it when I checked.

From the page I linked before, looks like a score of 61-75 can take Math 26, Math 40, or Math 41. We know 26 is offered, so that might be an option.

@bodangles Oh wow I didn’t even see that! I’ll definitely take it again then!

@fball7411, if you are coming in summer, I think that may mean you should sign up for one of the Leap Prides. I only see one Math offered, but its called the Math of Money, which isnt going to help you. Double check as I’m not sure if you can pick classes outside of Leap. I could be totally wrong, though.

@fball7411 @Sophley Actually, if you attend in the summer, you have two options. You can enroll in a LEAP pride and take the same 2 classes as everyone else in that Pride, OR, you can not enroll in LEAP and you can take whatever classes you like. If you aren’t in LEAP you won’t have the same classes with the same people and you won’t do some of the LEAP activities (think ‘get to know you’ type things), but you are not required to enroll in LEAP to start in the summer at PSU. So technically, if allowed, you can take both math classes.

Wow, didn’t know that. Then yes, get those Math courses out of the way!
