Ahem

Continuing from the -other thread-

The question was something like

“How do you find the time and place to read in college when you are constantly around other people and have no real place to yourself?”

I mean, besides the library, which is always too noisy.

You can always read in the shower. Or under the covers.

But sometimes the books I have are too unwieldy to read under the covers.

what about putting a sock on you doorknob while you read? Your roomie doesn’t have to know you’re reading instead of, er, watching a movie.

That is actually a good way to take advantage of the old sock system.

Unwieldy, you say? It’s too hard to handle?!

Hmm … in that case, hope that people avoid the library on weekends. Then you’ll have all the time in the world (or at least 48) to read your books.

I’m just saying that turning the pages is annoying when you are trapped under a bed sheet.

You and your roomie can develop a “knock first” policy. You can say you’re shy about changing and could therefore use a heads up in case you’re not decent.

Hmm… I guess no one has personal experiences on how to handle this problem, although I still think the shower is the way to go. No one can bother you there. I’m sure lots of people read books in the bathroom. It’s pretty relaxing.

I don’t understand why the shower. On the can would make more sense.

That’s what class is for.

Gotta go with Manhattan on this one. I usually read when I’m using the toilet or when I’m REALLY REALLY bored. I just read the newspapers or magazines though. Books? Pfft…

I think worst case scenario here is that someone ends up reading a book they didn’t plan on paging through.

No harm no foul.

Well, the shower is convenient in terms of brushing off and cleansing your . . . ahem, mind, after reading such a refreshing book. Plus the water kind of blocks any sort of noises when turning the pages. You don’t want people hearing you flapping through the pages now when sitting on the can, would you?

Lol - books are so funny!

I don’t usually read books, though. In fact, I never read books. But if I did read books, I would consider using Apple’s new Ipad. There may not be an app for it, but the Ipad might be useful for hiding behind while you read.

I do most of my reading on the subway or while waiting for something/someone.

^ hahaha. This made my night. ::makes note to self – avoid PlattsburghLoser on the subway::

I like to read at airports and on airplanes. I even read in the security lines.

I’ve been reading for as long as I can remember too… I remember teachers praised my reading skills in report cards. I’m usually a fast reader, but sometimes I go more slowly when I really want to appreciate it.

Honestly though, nothing is more relaxing than reading after a long period of not reading.
