Question about recovery from a torn meniscus

I tore the meniscus of my right knee on the tennis court last fall and had surgery to trim it out on November 7th (so I’m now about 4 months and 1 week out of surgery). Pain-wise, it’s great. Almost no pain, good range-of-motion, and I’m back to full activity level (although I’ve given up running and tennis for now as I want to keep my knee healthy). So, for the most part all is good. However, my knee is still a little puffy and swollen compared to my non-injured knee. Will the swelling ever go away? My doctor says that it could take six months or more - or it might never go away. Anybody else have experience with this? Thanks!

I had surgery four weeks ago today. I had tears in two spots and he trimmed both, I was told it would be 80-90% healed at 6 months. I just had my 2nd PT session today and I still have swelling. I’m slowly working my way back into exercising. My PT is all about building blocks of PT. Starting slow and adding more exercises as I ncrease my range of motion and strengthen muscles I haven’t been using for months. I hurt my knee early August of last year and finally had surgery in Feb. I kept hoping it would get better. During that time I was not able to straighten my knee at all as I would hit the tear.
I highly recommend finding a good PT.

Not me, my husband. It took more than a year for him to recover (he did no prescribed PT though - so he is a bad reference point!). Now, many years passed, and he does not remember which knee was operated on!
