Hi, I’m an international student living in the US. My family makes very little, less than $25k a year. However, we receive money from Korea (about $35k a year). Only the $25k that we make in the United States is actually taxed and reported. When filling out CSS Profile or other financial forms to submit to college, do you think it is better to report both the $35k and $25k annual incomes? Or just the taxable $25k? Thank you.

If this money is income, it must be reported on the financial aid forms. Is it income?

If it is income from a foreign source, and your parents are US taxpayers, they should schedule a meeting with a tax lawyer and find out whether or not they should have been declaring that income. Whether it is taxable or not may depend on their visa status and the type of income.

You need to report your family’s world-wide income from all sources on the CSS Profile. Look at the Profile carefully, and figure out what category of income that $35k falls into, and put it on that line.
