Question about SAT scores and admissions to top universities...

In January, I had scored 640 CR 800 M 760 W. This past March, I did not practice and all of my scores went down, and I do not plan on superscoring so I will only send in one sitting (Jan). My question is, most top tier schools have SAT 25-75 percentile brackets which usually range with the lowest CR score being around a 660 or a 680. Will one score make or break my chances? When I say top universities, I’m talking about schools like Duke, Wesleyan, Amherst, Williams, etc.

It all depends on other factors, such as grades, extracurricular activities/competitions, etc. A 640 at a school where the middle 50% is 660-750 (for example) will put you at a disadvantage, but it won’t guarantee rejection.
