Question about state-wide testing and admissions

My grade had a state-wide testing for a writing composition a few weeks back. I have this nagging feeling I didn’t do so well on it xD. I felt it was difficult and I had nothing to relate or to write about.

How much do you guys think it might affect your chances of getting in, say, a top-tier school such as Andover, Exeter, Deerfield, etc? I’m applying next year. I know that a bad grade can seriously lower your chances, so I was wondering if anyone who may have been in the situation as I got into one of these schools.

I have not gotten my official report back, so maybe I didn’t do as bad as I thought. (I hope). But it’s really worrying me, since I can tell whether or not I did good or bad.

By the way, I would probably say that my entire transcript, as a whole if you look at it, is pretty okay. (6th grade and above). Unfortunately writing is not my strong suit, although I’ve gotten As and A+s mostly. Never below an A-.

All of my grades 6th grade and above have never dipped below A-.

Obviously, I understand that the transcript isn’t the only admissions looks at. There are SSATs, interviews, recommendations, etc.

I think this might be better off going into the chances forum, but I’m not sure.

Thanks to anyone who replies

I had the MCAS long comp last month (is that what you’re talking about?). When I applied to BS, I didn’t submit MCAS scores at all. I don’t think they look at state-wide standardized testing.

Are you sure? My parents said they looked at them, and I have had a sibling apply to one of these schools.

I just checked- the school report for Exeter requires standardized testing scores. I don’t know what other schools do, since for most of them you need to request information first.

Last year’s scores could’ve been on what my current school sent for me, I don’t know.

Neither of my children’s state test scores were on their transcripts and no school asked for them. There are plenty other measures of your ability for them to see, grades, rec, SSAT, etc. If you are concerned, just ask the school to withhold then from your transcripts. I wouldn’t worry about it either way. I doubt they care much about them.

I swore three times on the long comp. Don’t worry, it helped show the character’s tough girl attitude. I was so happy I did that. Let’s rebel against MCAS!
