This is regarding CSS Profile question SR 115 (amount student expects to earn during school year).

The book “Paying for College Without Going Broke” says not to include work study earnings for this projection.

As part of his work-study, son was accepted as resident assistant for incoming junior year 2013-14 which would pay for the cost of his room.

So even if he will be paid over $6000 for this job, I should put down $0 for his expected earnings? Do I understand this correctly?

In general, you do not report financial aid, and work-study is considered financial aid. For the record, if student borrowed $3,000 last year, and has $1,000 unspent, then the $1,000 is considered aid, and not reportable as assets.

I believe there is an additional info section. If so, I would report $0 on SR115, and in the additional info section report the CWS RA job. The school will then know how to take it into account.

Thanks for replying, OperaDad.

I will put 0 then. I wanted to make sure we won’t get in trouble with the Finaid Office or the IRS.

Good suggestion on putting that in the Explanation Section of the Profile, too. Thanks.
