Question about the essay, and chances...

<p>I just logged into the WUSTL pathway for the first time (I’m applying regular decision) and I see that there is an “essay” under the materials on file tab.</p>

<p>What essay? I thought there was just the common app and the pre-application data sheet…</p>

<p>And also, if you have time, chances would be appreciated…</p>

<p>Also, this semester I got all B’s and 1 C. Yeah… I know…</p>

<p>Also, I took calculus III at a local community college.</p>

<p>When did the bad grades happen? That will probably seal your fate at any top university unless you have a damn good explanation.</p>

<p>96% of WashU’s students who were ranked were in the Top 10% of their class. If you’re not hooked in some way, e.g. recruited athlete or URM (which as an Asian you aren’t), I’m afraid that your chances probably aren’t very good, even with your excellent test scores. </p>

<p>Make sure you pick a good range of selectivity in the schools that you apply to, and especially look for schools that have a reasonable percentage of students outside of the Top 10%. For example, you might have a better shot at Vassar, which has 69% of its students in the Top 10%, and being male would give you an admissions boost.</p>

<p>You might try posting on the Parents’ Forum to get some other good suggestions for schools to consider.</p>
