Question about the Optional Essay:

Since the silent movies of the 1920s first flickered on the screen, the medium of film has inspired, provoked, entertained and educated. Select a film whose message or imagery resonated with you long after the credits rolled. How did it capture your imagination or affect your consciousness?

Could I potentially write about a television channel that has captured my imagination and affected my consciousness, and include descriptions of specific shows and original movies produced by said Channel? Thanks…

Disney Channel?
And most likely

Lmao, Disney Channel.

Yes, you guys guessed right. I just asked a friend about it, and she said “Sorry, but it said film. You can’t dodge it. In addition, it specifically says a film “whose message or imagery resonated with you.” Not quite Disney Channel. Something meaningful, please and thank you.”

Any other thoughts?

That’s really condescending of her.

IMO, you could write a great essay about something that is seemingly childish. Maybe you find something really meaningful about it. I mean, the circle of life from The Lion King has a lot of images applicable to many different situations, but it’s still a kids movie.

Anyway, I think you should call and ask. I think you should pick a particular film but that’s just my opinion. I know Tufts is really open with their essays.

i tied mine to the book version of the film, which i liked more and compared the two (having my point of the essay be in the difference). hopefully thatll work…

Dan also resonated “Whatever the hell you want” in more than one occasion :O

I don’t see how the Disney Channel resonated with you, but if it actually did then go for it.

My advice: the Disney Channel as a whole is fairly broad; you might be better off narrowing that down, but then again you might have something broad in mind.

My philosophy is: Answering the spirit of the question is more important than answering the letter of the question.

Which, you’ll notice, is precisely what I’ve done here.
