Question about Transferring from SMC to UCLA

I’ve been at a junior college for one year now, but not full time, and I plan on finishing all my igetc within the next two years. I have been unable to be a full time student because of family responsibilities and I work 30 hours a week. Will this hurt my chances of getting in? My GPA is 3.8, I’m just concerned that I haven’t been full time and it’s taking me 6 semesters instead of 4.

it won’t hurt your chances, and in fact they say that in considering xfer students they take into account family circumstances and employment. See [Transfer Admission Guide - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/Adm_tr/tradms.htm)

You mention this in the personal statement; don’t be shy here, if you don’t tell them they won’t know. You should go to a xfer counselor at your school this semester to make sure you’re on track and for general advice. While UCLA does not have an admissions guarantee, some UCs do and you might want to have the certainty of getting into a UC campus in case UCLA doesn’t accept you. Also ask about the preferred program; while UCLA doesn’t have a guarantee, they do have programs where students at some CC’s taking a specified program are promised an advantage in admission.
