Question about two of my EC's and my religion...

Heyyyy (please bear with me! this is an important concern of mine and would appreaciate any help/opinions)

Well, i am the guitarist, and in fact the only musician, at my church here in texas. My family, and some other church members from texas, go to mexico 9 times a year to celebrate our “9 big” celebrations. The church in mexico is much larger. however, i am the co-head musician (violinist) along with a female guitarist. we work together and make arrangements to accompany hymns and then perform with the whole “choir” and “band” at each celebration. i leave about 3-5 days earlier than my family in order to practice and tie any loose ends taht were left untied (lol) when she and i met a couple of weeks earlier in Monterrey (now im getting my tenses all effed up!). (side note: we meet in monterrey because: 1) my mom’s family lives there and 2)it’s convenient and fair for the both of us to meet there because it’s halfway (she lives in mex. city, and i in houston)) sorry, i know this is getting lengthy!! also, here in houston, our church congregates every thursday and on the 16th of every month we have a religious dinner. my questions on my ec’s and religions are the following: how should i list these without having to explain them so thoroughly as i just did?? would i need to clarify what religion i am (i’m part of the old church of god but our “prime minister” has made modifications, if you will, that kind of follow the same steps as jews and christians)??

i know this is a bit ambiguous, and if you can’t seem to be able to answer my questons based on what i’ve provided, please let me konw. i’m a little conflicted!!!

thanks for your toleration and any input!!

The position would generally be called church music director. I’d list is as a volunteer position: church music codirector. You could describe the work in Mexico as mission work if that’s an accurate description. You certainly can indicate your religion but I don’t believe it is required or that it particularly matters one way or another.

bump. anyone??

I would think that co-director of church worship team and musician (guitar and violin) would describe your EC. You might want to include an average of your hours/week or hours/month. I think that describing your religion might not be beneficial and that you would be safer to just leave it generic.

Describing your religion when you describe these extracurricular activities may not be NECESSARY, but it will absolutely not HURT your application. If you want to talk about the Church of God in an essay or somewhere else, go for it.

I would agree with the above - in your essay talk about something meaningful to you - if this is religion why not? Just be sure not to preach and to remain respectful and open minded…
