Can anyone suggest good professors for Calculus at UCSD? I am planning to take Math 20B in Fall. Also, do they allow use of graphing calculators on the tests?? Thanks.

I’ve taken … 12 math classes in UCSD and have never once been allowed to use a graphing calculator. I’ve only used non-graphing calculators for CHEM, ECON, and PHYS, though.

I took three math classes at UCSD and was allowed to use my TI-86 in two of them (maybe we were allowed to use it in 20D as well, but that was a long time ago.)

Was definitely allowed my graphing calculator in chem 6AH and chem 6B/BL, plus upper-division pchem.

I suggest Dr. John Eggers. He’s one of the got-to-have guys. If you want a pleasant Math20B, try to get into Laura Stevens.

for math 20A on tritonlink for selecting classes, it says the courses are taught by eggers, staff, and zhang.

what does staff mean? like a TA?

^I think that just means they haven’t figured out which professor will be teaching it yet.

I second Eggers and Stevens. I didn’t take the 20 series but I had Eggers and Stevens subbed for us a few times and she was great. they are in high demand though :)

Kong + Oprea are good profs too. It takes maybe a week or two to get used to their accents, but they are extremely helpful during lecture + during office hours.

Not even sure if they’re still in the department, but I thought Shuichiro Takeda and Evelyn Lunasin were really easy professors for 20 series.

What about my TI-Inspire with CAS? XD

that depends on the professor. I know for the 10 series that my profs allowed TI-89’s, but you needed to show your work and not just write down the answer to get credit.

hey guys,

concerning this fall quarter, De Winter or Dong for math 20b? thanks.
