Community college → tranfer to a UC (U of California) campus is an option my daughter is considering. We have 2 excellent CCs in our backyard (De Anza college and Foothill college). Both have very high rates of transfer. D took a summer course at De Anza college and likes it a lot.
D definitely wants to pursue Law school or other Grad school after her undergrad degree. For grad school admissions, undergrad GPA seems very important.
How does the undergraduate GPA calculation work for transfer students ? When the CC coursework transfers over, do the grades for those courses also transfer over (and become part of the undergraduate GPA calculation ?), or is the undergraduate GPA only computed over courses taken only in Junior and Senior year of college ?
If someone knows the specifics of how UC campuses compute undergraduate GPA for California CC transfer students, that would be particularly helpful.
For UC application purposes, all transferable college courses and grades from all colleges attended are used in the GPA recalculation as described here:
http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/transfer/preparing-admission/transfer-gpa/index.html
For law school application purposes, all college courses and grades from all colleges attended are used in the GPA recalculation (which may be different from how the colleges calculate GPA):

For PhD programs, admission is more holistic, with undergraduate research and related recommendations also being very important. Grades in upper level in-major courses are likely more important than other grades.
I think what the OP is asking is whether or not CC grades get calculated in the UC’s calculation for GPA. The answer is no. The UC GPA is based only on classes taken at the UC. But the law school will evaluate both schools (the CC and the UC) and all of their grades.
Thanks ProfessorPlum, that answers my question.
