Question about USC courting me.

After being awarded my Presidential Scholarship for the business school, I have recieved a personal letter from a CEO of a company, acceptance into the honors program and global leadership seminar, and recently a call from the Dean of Leventhal (I need to call him back!). I feel like USC really wants me (I’m going to enroll there, sending stuff tomorrow), but I was wondering if they do this type of stuff with a lot of people? I think the amount of attention this large of school pays to those accepted is amazing. Also, I’m waitlisted at Duke, which has been my first choice, but I’m not sure what will happen. Do you think there is anyway for USC to bump me to a full scholarship to make a possible decision easier or make me a lot happier? I’m just surprised how much attention I’ve gotten, yet I didn’t get full (trust me, I’m so happy with half). I’m not meaning to sound pretenscious, rather inquiring (and slightly greedy, yes).

Thanks.

I have received the same treatment from the business school. It is very flattering… and did play a small part in my decision to go to USC.

Also received Presidential Scholarship. Yes, a full one would have been nice but the fin aid package was great so I can’t really complain. :p

Maybe I will bump into you at USC. :)

My son as a NMF got a Presidential Scholarship in engineering but didn’t get the phone calls you did. I did speak with the associate dean of engineering several times & we have exchanged several e-mails. She has been very personable & assured me that they will work with our son, which has played a role in our being willing to pay the additional he’ll incur at USC vs. FREE at AzSU as a NMF.
The Assistant Dean of Admissions has been similarly very personable & we had a very long conversation before son committed to USC.
All the contacts I’ve had with USC thus far have been great–they answer & respond to questions & e-mails. This is better than I’ve gotten at several of son’s other schools.
Oh yeah, chances of getting a scholarship “bumped up” & going from presidential to trustee is extremely remote at best. From what I’ve read, the Us/schools all offer the best merit aid to the same students they’re all fighting to attract & expect most of them to turn down the offers. Some schools do offer additional merit scholarships on top of a presidential award & many offer merit awards to continuing students, based on criteria they set.
Good luck everyone!

Our experience is similar to HImom’s. They answer the questions at Viterbi, but do a lot less “courting.” Still, son is attending in August, so I guess they are good at gauging exactly how much courting is needed, and then provide just that amount and no more.

lol …i like your use of the word “courting”

Thanks for your responses. I received mixed reviews on how much attention USC has paid to certain people. Several of my friends/classmates were scholarship winners, yet it seems they haven’t received the same level of attention I have (although they aren’t the business/accounting school). Maybe it’s because some of them have committed already.

Courting just seemed like a fun word to use.

My daughter went to one of the spring receptions hosted by USC, and the staff member who originally interviewed her happened to be there. Afterwards she went over to thank him again, for her interview several months earlier, and although she was wearing a name tag with only her first name on it, he refered to her as Miss (Last Name) and told her they were excited she was planning on attending and they expected great things from her. Needless to say she was very impresssed that he would remember her name after all that time and that she was not just a number!

I was accepted into the School of Theatre, and I’ve been called by the dean, two students, and one of the directors/professors.

Northwestern called me once, and NYU didn’t call at all, so that was a definite positive when I made my USC decision.
