Question about USC preliminary recording

Hi to all!

I’ve been checking out USC’s program for voice (this is for jazz voice,) and it says the following:

Vocalists must include “How High the Moon” (medium/up) and “Body and Soul” (ballad) as two of the selections on their audition recording. Vocalists must also sing 32 bars from memory of an improvised instrumental or vocal solo from the jazz discography in the first selection on the recording. If a student is invited to campus for a live audition, s/he should bring a recording of the original solo with them to the audition.

I understand what most of it means, but when it says “32 bars…” onward, I’m not quite sure what that’s supposed to mean. Do they want you to memorize a scat solo? It must mean that b/c you can’t memorize your own scat solo if it’s truly improvised haha.

Just wondering in advance, thankee!
