Question about waitlist letter

I have some good schools to choose from. But I was waitlisted by my first choice school, which is Brown. I am trying to compose a letter for the waitlist telling them I’ll definitely come if accepted.

My question is this: When I applied I did so as a Biology Major and possible premed, but since then I have changed my mind and now I think I will be a History or Philosophy major. In my application, I played up the fact that I had one foot in the sciences and one in the humanities. Should I tell Brown that my interests have changed or is this too complicated? I know that waitlist is like plugging holes for the class. So should I simply portray myself as I orignially did or explain the changes that have happened to me during my senior year? Help would be appreciated.

scrapiron I’m not a college counselor, but I think I’d just update them with your senior year activities and express your desire to go there. Perhaps say that they’re your first choice and that if they accept you you’ll definitely go.

I’m not sure that your choice of major at this point would be that relevant to their decision.

If you’re adament about pursuing it you should, but I’d put most of my energy into visiting the schools that accepted you. If this year is anything like last year, and I suspect it will be, there won’t be much movement from waitlists at the top schools. It can be hard to get excited about your other options when you’ve got unfinished business at another school.

Best of luck!
