I never thought about this, but the directions on the common data set allow colleges to report as an applicant students who withdraw their application (most commonly after they’ve been admitted ED or EA somewhere else). I presume that in calculating acceptance rates, those withdrawn applications get lumped in with those who were denied admission, since technically, they weren’t admitted.

Do I have this right, and does anyone have any idea what percentage of completed applications get withdrawn at colleges that are not in the very top tier?
