Question:Admission to the Department of Telecommunication (journalism/communications)

<p>I have a question regarding admission to the Department of Telecommunications in the College of Journalism and Communications.</p>

<p>On the site for this Department it reads “we have a large number of applicants for admission, we are highly selective, and the academic standards of our courses are rigorous.”</p>

<p>In the admission requirements page, it reads:</p>

<p>Academic Standards</p>

<p>Journalism and Communications is a limited admissions college; all applicants will be considered on a space-available basis. A grade point average of 3.0 (on all work attempted) and 60 hours of acceptable credit are required for admission at the junior year. Students should have completed the university’s general education requirement.</p>

<p>The following four courses are required in order to be admitted:
AMH2010 – American History to 1877
AMH2020 – American History since 1877
POS2041 – American Federal Government
POS2112 – State/Local Government or CPO2001 – Comparative Politics or INR2001 – International Relations or PSY2012 – General Psychology (only accepted for Advertising or Public Relations majors)
ECO2013 or ECO2023 – Macroeconomics or Microeconomics (required to transfer for Advertising majors only – required for graduation by all Journalism & Communications majors).</p>

<p>My question: Is all you have to do to be admitted into the Department of Telecommunication is to complete what was mentioned above?</p>

<p>no , i would assume then you qualify to be in the pool of applicants who meet min. requirements.</p>

<p>like when you apply for UF itself…you are required to have certain minimum GPA and # of credits…it doesnt get you admitted, only considered.</p>

<p>Would you say I have a better chance since I will come in with credit for the following in the fall?</p>

<p>I declared Computer Engineering, but I have had this growing passion for news production for some time now. Just yesterday I worked at Premios Juventud (like an MTV awards ceremony for entertainment (mainly music, sports, movies) that was televised by Univision)</p>

<p>After getting more hands on experience with the field (I was an Executive Producer for my school’s daily morning news show after being a part of it for 3 years) I like the field more and more.</p>

<p>Awesome! I’m trying to get in to the production too. Not necessarily news production though. I’m aiming for the Spring 2010 semester.</p>

<p>this isn’t something you can apply for until junior year, so you should hope that ap credits are the last thing they consider when accepting you at that point</p>

<p>well i would bet you have more on your resume than other applicants, i bet you can get in without trouble…your in good position when it comes to freshmen internships as well…i would assume you have the other freshmen beat since you were involved somehow with a major production like something on univision</p>

<p>keep trying to get involved in stuff and you can go far</p>
