Question for a friend (got a D in Comp 2)

A good friend of mine took Comp 101 during the summer last year and then Comp 102 during his fall semester (Freshman). He’s kicking himself in the butt now because his fall semester he didn’t care as much about good grades as he did second semester (attribute it to an epiphany or whatever). Anyway, he ended up getting a D+ in Comp 2 first semester, as well as alright grades in his other subjects (I believe a B and B+ in GBI and GChemI). Second semester, he pulled an A in Calc I as well as A-'s in GBII and GChemII, and he seems to be on a good track. He thought retaking Comp 2 would eliminate the first one until he found out that AMCAS takes the first time into account as well. What should my advice be to him?

I would laugh at him and tell him that this is where the kids who worked hard all their lives get even with the slackers.
