Question for actuaries

I am trying to educate myself before counseling my son, a high school senior.

S is very interested in computers and is also very good but not spectacular in math (34 on ACT, A in AP Stat, B in Precalc, so far only A in his AB Calc class (a handful of the best students are in BC Calc)). He is looking at Pitt. I’m considering suggesting that he double major in Computer Science and Actuarial Math, thinking that the combination would be very powerful in the job market when he finishes.

Two questions:

1) How is the job market for actuaries holding up?

2) Does his profile suggest that he is good enough in math to succeed as an actuary?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.
