Question for any plumbers out there! haha

Ok so this has been a horrible weekend for me luck wise. Yesterday, I was flushing the toilet when the bar of soap in my other hand slipped from my hand (at the perfect time) and went partially down the toilet (out of sight). So the toilet was partially jammed. We had someone from campus maintenance take a look at it and after playing around with the toilet for a while, said that the toilet should be fine now. So today, (not thinking about what happened yesterday), I went to the bathroom and attempted to put something solid down the drain haha. Of course, that was idiotic because the soap bar was still there and now the toilet is double clogged (and the toilet overflooded so I had fun mopping that up.

So my question is, what should I do?

Call maintenance again and have them fix it.

If you just stop using the toilet for a day or two, the water will dissolve the bar of soap, just as if you left soap in a bucket of water. That’s what I would do.

You don’t have a plunger? Go out, buy a decent plunger (it will cost you a few dollars). Learn how to use it. Save money and time.

we have a plunger, it doesn’t help though when the soap bar is stuck out of reach

Before calling maintenance, get some diet coke, mentos, and perhaps a pack of baking soda, and …

nah, that would be too darn cruel! :)

On a serious note, there is a product called Roebic Soap digester that could help.

http://www.roebic.com/septic/ww.htm</a></p>

If you do not want to spend much money, the next best thing is to pour gallons of HOT water down the toilet. Waiting for the bar of soap to dissolve in the cold pipes will take forever.

It seems like you need a snake…

[How to Use a Plumber’s Helper or “Snake” | eHow.com](http://www.ehow.com/how_397_plumbers-helper-snake.html)

xiggi, LOL! A kid in my HS stole a chunk of sodium metal from the chemistry lab and flushed it down a toilet - DO NOT do this, kids!

BB’s right. A snake would fix that right up.

If you can wait, then I second the idea to just wait a few days and let it dissolve. It’s going to be the easiest thing to do.

There’s really not much a plumber is going to do. You’re going to pay a ridiculous amount to have them come and snake out the toilet.

I am surprised though that it’s causing that amount of blockage but isn’t coming out with a plunger.

In the future, leave the toilet lid closed when the toilet is not in use ;).

Yes - see which can hold out the longest - you holding it or the soap dissolving - ;)

This is what drain snakes/augers are meant for. Maintenance should have one so call them again, tell them that what they did before didn’t work, and suggest they use a snake to make sure the drain is cleared.

I still think that it’s worth it to just use another toilet for a few days.

Snakes can cause quite a mess.
