Question for current Duke students

I am a freshman and was wondering when we pick our new roommates and such for next year. Thanks!

Roompix is usually in late february you submit a housing application and form blocks before that (I want to say late January?). I don’t know how it’s done now but my guess is that it’s done online.

cool thanks can u change it once u submit it

Change how? As in leave a block?

For the 08-09 school year (not sure about 09-10 or 10-11 since I’m not/won’t be blocking), we had to fill out the room pix form as SBR talked about in either late January or early February. On the form, we had to list the names and unique ID numbers of all the people in our block (up to 12 people per block, with blocks being co-ed). If we wanted to change our form, we could just resubmit another one as long as it was done before the deadline.

We got our housing number over spring break (one number for the entire block) with room selection being in mid-March when we were back at Duke. Once our number was up, every roommate pair in our block logged on and chose a room (having the entire block choose together maximizes our chances of being together since we see what rooms are still available at the same time and can choose a bunch of rooms that are available and located close to each other. BUT say roommate pair A wants Kilgo and roommate pair B really wants Few, then they can go with whatever quad they prefer - though that negates the benefits of “blocking.” My entire block got one hallway together). Once we had our room “locked” (selected) we had like 5 minutes to change our mind and choose a new room. If we didn’t, that locked room was our new room. If we wanted to make a change after finalizing our new room, we had to contact RLHS.

^What SN said. We had to do our roompix in person (yeah I know, how quaint ;)) so our procedures were different. But I don’t remember having to list the names and unique ID’s of everyone in your block on the housing form. All I remembered was you had to list the names and unique ID’s of your roommate and your designated “block leader.” Thus, everyone in a block would list the same person as the leader and that’s how they knew you were blocking.
