Question for current or past students

How much of a difference is the aid given to you after your freshman year?

I need this answer to decide if I am going to attend American and get a degree in Broadcast Journalism or get what I want and double in marketing and telecommunications at Penn State. Thanks!

It will vary from college to college but usually it increases if you are doing well in your major (above 3.0).

You get a tad bit more money if you’re grades are up.

But for the most part, PSU doesn’t give out much at all…
And tuition is at a steady increase…

I’ve found that PSU can be quite generous as you increase in year. More money is available to you from the fin aid office as you meet certain qualifications. Money is also passed out in the academic departments and colleges. I’m going to be a junior next year and have managed to have managed to accumulate less than $5 grand in subsidized loan debt, even with attending 2 summer sessions. It is all about knowing what your options are regarding financial aid (outside scholarships, and knowing what you should be receiving every year form the bursar) and calling/emailing financial aid whenever you have a question.

I am paying out-of-state, so the situation is different for me.
