Question for Speedsolver

I thought you might know the answer to this as you are in Honors.

Do students get extra credit for the Experiential l Learning requirement in Honors in addition to the class credit?

If so, when do they get extra credit? Would it be the same quarter the class is in? How much extra credit?

Does the Experiential Learning require more than one quarter of work to get extra credit?

Thanks for any help!

Experiential Learning doesn’t count as “extra credit”. It’s just part of the requirements for Honors. It’s a minimum of one quarter of work per project; and you need to fulfill two of the different aspects:
International Engagement
Service
Research
Leadership

I haven’t done any EL, and at the rate I’m going: major coursework concentration on CS while taking 18 credits a quarter, active in student orgs, working on campus, contracting for a company, and commuting, I might be dropping out of the Honors Core program because I just don’t have time to fulfill all the requirements.

I could TA then do research for my experiential learning requirements, but I’m more concentrated on building up experience for future industry opportunities, so we’ll see. :)

Here is more information about Experiential Learning requirement: [UW Honors - The Experiential Learning Requirement - Extending Your Honors Experience Beyond the Classroom](Experiential Learning | University of Washington Honors Program)

For any other current Honors students in this forum, I highly recommend you to put some of your experiences here, since you will be of much help =)

Thank you for the information! Wow, you sure do alot while working on a C.S. degree, how do you ever get a chance to sleep :)

Good question =P Some nights I just sleep less, and I find myself sleeping on the bus at times. I don’t mix well with caffeine, so I drink cold water at night and sometimes take breaks and play games like Counter Strike to wake myself up. =X

There’s a lot of time management involved and it could get stressful sometimes. However, I believe it’s all worth it in the long run. I’m also seeing if I can move closer to campus next quarter or so, which would give me a few hours of my life back every day =D

I do sacrifice most of the “hanging out” aspect of college life, although I spend a good amount of time in the CSE labs, where most of my friends are. (I’m not a hermit! D: …well sometimes I am.)
