did you guys put Evolution as BCPM? Thanks

lol why wouldn’t it be counted as BPCM?

lol i thought it would be but Evolution specifically wasn’t on the list under biology. just checking =)

since it’s called Evolutionary Biology, BioEE 2780 it probably makes sense.

what about astro 101/102?

^ yup. take a look at the AMCAS guide on where to count things. astro counts as physics, woohoo.

do freshman writing seminars cover the english requirement?

From the HCEC site:

just wondering cause in the cornell application guide. they said put astro 103 under other and put astro 200 and higher as physics!

Hey i’m a pre-med at cornell and I have a question…

So to fulfill the 1 year ofbio with lab… do we have to take BIOG1500 [Investigative Bio Lab] twice and take BIOG1440 [intro tophysio] and BIOEE [eco and the env]??

^for premed, you probably would want to take BioMG/BioG 1350, Cell and Developmental Biology, instead of the ecology class. you could take ecology if you wanted to, but the other course is probably more in line with your interests. I do not know how you get a full year of bio lab, but I am sure you would not take the Investigative Bio Lab twice.

There are a ton of bio labs that will satisfy the med school bio lab requirement, not just intro bio labs. Genetics w/ lab, biochem lab, animal physiology lab, etc. will all do the trick.

Astronomy’s not likely to count as science unless it’s offered by the physics department. AMCAS pretty much designates courses based on the department that offers it. For example, biopsych that’s offered by the psych department won’t count as science but biopsych that’s offered by the bio department will.

hey norcalguy, did you have any classes on your app that got changed by the amcas people? i asked judy and shes like AMCAs doesn’t do it specifically based on department but on the description of the class… so she said i’ll have to use my judgement on that one -_- .

AMCAS has no description of the class lol They’re not going to read the course manuals of every college out there. AMCAS only has two things to go on: the course title and the department that offers the course. It won’t hurt to list astronomy as BPCM. If AMCAS doesn’t agree, they’ll just change it. Not a big deal.

thanks for response. just wondering norcalguy, when did your amcas application complete? (like what month?) if you dont mind sharing. i’m currently deciding on when to take mcats… i signed up for june 17th but considering moving to july 8th since finals end may 21… and I heard hcec doesn’t send packet until at least mid june?

In 2008, my AMCAS was complete in mid-July (I submitted in mid-June). Last year, I submitted on the day AMCAS was open for submission and was complete in a week. With Cornell’s new system of transmitting the HCEC packet, I was complete at all my schools by the end of August.

HCEC packets are usually not available until mid-June but it doesn’t take long for AMCAS to receive the packet from Interfolio. I did the same thing as you as far as changing MCAT dates (moving from June to July) and the scheduling worked out just fine. With a July 8th date, you’ll most likely have your score by mid-August.

Oh, do you think finishing your application in August really matters vs finishing it in July… Just wondering cause some schools are rolling i heard and the early you finish the better. Or is it no big deal… I’m kind of worried about MCATs since i took a practice verbal and get a 4 hahaha…

Oh and cornell packet through interfolio includes transcript right? So no need for us to request one?

A lot of schools do have rolling admissions. That being said, I don’t think the difference between being complete in July vs. August is a huge one.

There are no transcripts (that I know of) included in the HCEC packet. You have to request that Cornell mail a copy of your transcript to AMCAS. Cornell is very quick with processing the request.

oh right, it doesn’t include transcript. i read it wrong lol…

i guess i’ll keep june for now, change later if needed, i just hope they dont run out of spots in nyc. dont want to fly to florida to take mcats if i need to change hahaha
