Hey guys so I got into HMC which I am crazy-happy about…Really want to go here…But I have 2 Ivy league schools Cornell and Columbia that I am waiting to hear from on the 1st…My question is:

If you were in my situation and got into Cornell/Columbia, would you pick one of them or would you pick HMC?

I chose HMC over Cornell in a heartbeat (though Cornell was a bit of a backup.)

I didnt bother applying to Columbia, but from what I know I would have even chosen Cornell before it.

If youg could state more about yourself than that you want to study physics perhaps we could perhaps give a better response. What country are you from by the way?

More about myself?
-I want my classes to be as hard as they can be, I like pushing myself
-I’ve been locked up in a bad highschool with teachers who knew less subject matter than I did
-I’m from India
-I love nothing more than solving wicked Math and Physics problems. I’m borderline obsessed with Physics and everything Physics
-I like being around smart/ultra-smart/genius people. I think it brings out the best in me…

Based on the first/4th/5th criteria you gave, I honestly believe that HMC would probably the best of the 3 for you. While Cornell and Columbia are both great schools, I believe HMC has the edge on them in rigor and in physics/math obsession both within the subject matter and the students.

But it sounds like you already made your decision =)

Please do come to Harvey Mudd. As a frequent friend and patron of the International Place and community of the Claremont Colleges, I can assure you that you will not be left out as an Indian student on these campuses. There is a significant international Indian, Pakistani and Bengali population at the 5C’s, and together we do a lot of cool stuff.

Academically, you fit Harvey Mudd very well and would do well to go there.

As Seiken said though, sounds like you already made a decision.

Thanks for the input guys.
Yeah I have made a decision. I think I always wanted to choose Harvey Mudd I just needed a bit of re-assurance that it wasnt an insane thing to do.

Wow!! Seven months of SATs and application madness is over?!! Think I’m a little sad! hehe…Anyway thanks again…

Yeah I like home cooked traditional food yes…But at teh same time what Indian food is to you Pizza and pasta and what not is to me!! Afterall Indian food in India is well…Food!!

haha, 2 months of SAT’s and 2 weeks of application will be over soon! I was thinking of taking a gap year before I got a likely letter from Cornell.

I have no other choice. Cornell will be the only place I am accepted at, when I officially get my letter of acceptance. I am waiting on Vandy’ decision as well.

I don’t want to be a robot or the geek. I want some social life as well as academics.

I applied early to Mudd last year, and got in with a pending application at Cornell. I have plenty of friends at Cornell, and I talk to them about school sometimes. I have yet to even start to regret my decision.
