Question on Pull-Ups

My son has the nomination but is concerned about the results of his pull-ups test. He did 5. He’s 6’4" and 200 lb. Is it more difficult for a large person to do pull-ups given the longer arms and heavier physique?

I think you can score lower than the average in some things as long as you make up for it in other areas.

Absolutely. Years ago when our oldest was applying to the Academy I remember an admissions officer telling me that they had football players that couldn’t do a single pull-up. She also said that she would guarantee it wasn’t because they were weak. Smaller, lighter individuals are always much better at them than any 275lb. linebacker. The smaller folks don’t have as much weight to lift. But, if your son does wind up going to USMA, he WILL become better at pull-ups, no question.
