Question on word limit for essays

If they give a limit of 500 words, how close to that limit should you be? Is 330 words good enough?

It should be longer. 330 words is not enough.

Don’t worry about the limit. It’s the quality. If you can make an amazing response in 300 words, leave it. Don’t add fluff just to increase the word count. That said, if your response is short because it has no substance or is not very good, you need to think about rewriting it (even in this case, your word count is just a surface issue for an underlying problem of quality).

Write what you want and what you feel will best get yourself across as an individual.

Longer. Throw in an anecdote.

It would be nice if it was longer. However, if you wrote that was pithy while also being exceptional, then please do not add unnecessary filler to your paper. Doing this would be a waste of your time and the admissions people’s time.
