Question regarding Financial Aid Disbursement and refunds

My story is a pretty long one and I’m looking to hopefully get some reassurance here for when I try again to fix this issue. Originally the payment type for my housing was fixed into a quarterly payment option. I emailed the appropriate office and requested for the payment to be changed into a full payment type instead of the original quarterly. After about a week my payment type finally changed to a full payment, but instead of removing the quarterly they combined the costs leaving me with ~$22k instead of the actual ~$17k cost. I once again spoke to the appropriate people about this problem and after passing me around to a few representatives the issue was fixed so that the remaining amount on my account was ~$17k (the amount I was left with was less than the price listed on the school website). Even though they fixed it so that the remaining was correct they didn’t actually remove the quarterly payment, they just cut out a piece of the quarterly payment (due by 9/08) and left the full payment alone (due by 9/18). I wouldn’t have really had a problem with this because my sponsor was going to cover the full costs, but all of my remaining financial aid that was going to go towards supplies and books ended up going towards the incorrectly overdue payment. Should I be able to refund this because of this issue or am I out of luck?

I’m confused. Is your housing a billable cost from your college? If it is…your financial aid award will be used to pay that bill first…and you will only get a refund if there is money left.

I’m wondering if it would be possible to refund the payment considering the aid was disbursed on incorrect bills. To be more precise the bill was due on the 8th when it should’ve been due on the 13th (confirmed by housing office) as well as the total cost because of it being way less than what it would cost.

Originally owed ~$5k for quarterly payment. This is due on the 8th when it should be due on the 13th. It is the correct price, but the incorrect due date.

After I requested to change to a full payment plan I owed ~$22k. Instead of removing the correct costs from the quarter payment and replacing with the correct cost of the full payment, they combined the two resulting in the incorrect amount. ~$5k due on the 8th and ~$17k due on the 18th when both should actually be due by the 13th.

After the payment was fixed they reduced it down to $17,067 which was the incorrect price due to my meal plan (they repeatedly told me that it was the correct amount and that I should not worry about the issue). Now I owe ~$4k on the 8th and ~$13k on the 18th. Both dates are wrong and both costs are wrong, I actually owe $17,517 all on the 13th.

The issue is that my financial aid is was disbursed today to the incorrect overdue bills that I’ve been trying to fix. I want to know if I can fix this issue and refund the financial aid that wasn’t even supposed to be disbursed towards these incorrect bills.

I’m sorry if my original post was confusing, but I hope this will be easier to understand.
