Question regarding majors

How strong are the International Relations, Psychology, and Philosophy programs at Bucknell? Additionally, what are my prospects for getting into a top law school? Thanks a lot.

getting into law school, much like getting into med school, is almost entirely a numbers-based process. if you have great grades and do really well on the lsat, youll get in somewhere great… whether youre a student at bloomsburg, penn state, bucknell or penn. of course, getting great grades and doing really well on the lsat isnt easy–otherwise everyone would do it–and thats why you see bucknell grads at all kinds of law schools.

on the departments in question, i only have extensive personal experience with international relations. its not a big department, as international relations hasnt been an available major for very long, but the faculty is fantastic (emek ucarer is one of my favorite people on campus) and multi-disciplinary in nature (most hold dual appointments with political science or economics). one of my best friends is graduating this year in psychology and found the program very good, though a common complaint around campus is the difficulty for freshman and first-semester sophomores to get the exact psych classes they want. philosophy is also a small department, but i know almost all of the faculty… and all of them are great (jeffrey turner is a favorite here).

My son is a poli sci/philo double. He loves his philosophy courses, that’s why he decided to add the second major. He’s currently in Brazil this semester.
