Question regarding premed/med school

Hey, I’m a senior in high school now and it’s time for me to decide what college I need to go to. I have two questions.
1.) If I decide to go to LSU and do well there, will it be easier to get into LSU medical school? Or will it be easier to get into LSU medical school if I do well at a more prestigious school (Tulane or UT Austin)?
2.) I’m going to be taking the AP biology exam, but I heard if you’re doing premed, medical schools like to see that you actually took a biology class in college and that you didn’t just get the credit without taking the college course. Is this true?

Also, I want my chances to get into medical school to be as high as possible so should I major in biology? Or should I major in something else to be unique?

1) Maybe, but primarily it will depend on what you do at LSU. It may help them evaluate your application because they may be more familiar with the letter writers and the activities that you do.
2) You should retake it in college so that you get an actual letter grade on your college transcript. There are a number of reasons why you should do this. For one, it makes it easier to transition into college if you are relearning some material. For two, it can potentially be an easy A. For three, if you do take the AP credit you have to take at least two other advanced biology classes with lab. That’s not a huge deal depending on your major, but extra labs should be avoided unless you REALLY want to do them.

No major is unique in an applicant pool of tens of thousands. Major in what you want, you will be more productive that way.
