Can I use my mothers 2010’s Tax Transcripts for my college this Fall? She hasn’t completed her 2011 taxes and every year her taxes are always about the same.

no. It takes about 2 weeks after you file your taxes to get the transcript, you if your mom did not file FAFSA yet or her taxes, you may not get any financial aid.

I filled out the Fafsa back in January I think using her 2010 taxes, but got the letter a few weeks ago about needing the Tax Transcripts due to new laws. I already ordered her 2010 Tax transcripts and they have already arrived but she misplaced them… hopefully we will find them soon.

But I was wondering if I could use the 2010’s since she filed a extension for 2011. Even on Fafsa’s website they ask for 2011’s I believe but in case your parents haven’t completed them yet it says use the previous years until your parents do and then correct anything that is wrong.

Seems to me I should be able to use her 2010’s tax Transcripts until she completes 2011’s. Is that not the case?

Even if you used the 2010 taxes as provisional numbers, until you finally file FAFSA (which you can’t do until 2011 taxes are finalized) you won’t be final for your FAFSA eligibility.

Your Mom will have to file 2011 taxes before you will be eligible for any federal aid. 2010 tax figures can be used as estimates, but any FA based on them will be estimated figures and will not actually be paid out until 2011 taxes are filed.

Ah, ok. That is what I thought, was just kinda hoping it wasn’t true. My mother always files a extension until October and refuses to do them any earlier. Thanks for the help answering my question.
