Aussie (will be 21) planning an exchange for a semester to US next year… I’m doing a double degree commerce and science, majors are international business and human biology. I have a number of uni’s to choose from but i’m just curious about chapel hill… i’ve read around the net that work load at chapel hill is very tough especially with science. Academics is important however the main thing i’m looking forward to as an exchange student is the college experience, parties/social life etc. Would it be hard to have an active party/social life and balance it with the double degree i’m doing? Am i better off going to another uni like ASU, MSU or ECU? Would they be a bit more relaxed work wise?

You really need to post more information. It is hard to answer this question without knowing what courses you plan on taking and how good of a student you are and how good your study habits are. If you are taking courses that are weeder courses for pre-med then I suspect you will find them extremely competitive and challenging. Chapel Hill has a medical school which means that the biology courses will have a lot of bright pre-med students.

I guess you could take a few general education courses to lighten the load. Just be warned that a lot of the courses can be reading and writing intensive so choice wisely.

Since you are 21, I am assuming that you will be a Junior. At that point, I would think that at any school the courses should be advanced and challenging,

Can you balance it? No clue but from what I hear many students at Chapel Hill seem to mange it. The polls at the College Prowler site indicate a high percentage ( I believe 90+) said they would still go to CH if they had to do it over.

You might try posting on the CH forum on this site.
